Murcia will launch an Action Plan on rational use of medicine. To that end, the Ministry of

Health and the Health Service Murciano met last week to a group of experts from all the health

sectors which have formed working groups to develop proposals and study their operation.

But not starting from scratch, since the prescription for active and the first steps to implement

the electronic prescriptions are some initiatives that are already part of previous programmes

and are priority objectives for managers of the Ministry of Health.

The meeting also presented the best national and international experience in use of medicines and

assessed the plans that have been put in place in the region. , the working groups

formed to meet again to make a fresh assessment of the initiatives.

The plan, which will last for three years, will work on ten aspects: quality indicators of

limitation, information systems, maintenance and training of professionals, by prescription

ingredient coordination between levels of care, safety of the drug, regulation of the visit

relationships with the medical and pharmaceutical industry, incentives for professionals, citizen

participation, involvement of the pharmacies and the role of nursing.

Casimiro Jimenez, director general of Planning, Finance and Health Policy pharmaceutical CF

declared that "in the specific case of the electronic prescriptions in Murcia are already in a

position to define a pilot area to begin."
